------- Additional Comments From ***@producerapps.helixcommunity.org 2003-03-27 12:37 PST -------
Environment:
OS: 10.2.4
System: Dual Proc Proc 1 GHz, with 256 MB

How Repeat:

0. Reference test system on Gogini's "screamer"
dual proc box. see /helix directory for clips and
symlink examples

1. Copy this file:
\\qa-fileserver\content\MOV\Audio_Video\360x240_RGB32_22k16m.mov
to your content directory

2. Create a directory to store symlinks for batch use
cd <content directory>
mkdir <batch directory>

3. Create symlinks to file
cd <batch directory>
ln -s <contentdirectory>/360x240_RGB32_22k16m.mov
1.mov
ln -s <contentdirectory>/360x240_RGB32_22k16m.mov
2.mov
.. repeat for a total of ~30 links

4. create an output directory
mkdir <batch output directory>

5. run producer in batch mode
./producer -i <batch source directory> -o <batch
output directory> -ad 768k -dt

Notes:

This crash does not seem sensitive to the
audience. It will crash with 10mbs, 768, 512,
256k etc. (I haven't tried it with lower bitrate
audiences)

It may take anywhere from 7 to 60 encodes to get
it to crash - from 20 minutes to 2 hours.

I have seen this crash in debug builds, running in
codewarrior's debugger, and running from gdb. It
seemed to take longer to crash when running from
codewarrior. GDB was more stable but not
incredibly informative. The release build seems
to crash the quickest. I did not however double
check the crash stack as I had a number of crashes
in debug builds as well.

I had wonderered if the problem was related to
running out of physical memory and having to use
swap space (different timing). I added another
512MB for a total of 768MB but saw no change in
behaviour.

I also tried maxing out the cpu with other
applications while encoding and this had no
discernable effect.

Environment:
OS: 10.2.4
System: Dual Proc Proc 1 GHz, with 256 MB

How Repeat:

0. Reference test system on Gogini's "screamer"
dual proc box. see /helix directory for clips and
symlink examples

1. Copy this file:
\\qa-fileserver\content\MOV\Audio_Video\360x240_RGB32_22k16m.mov
to your content directory

2. Create a directory to store symlinks for batch use
cd <content directory>

3. Create symlinks to file
cd <batch directory>
ln -s <contentdirectory>/360x240_RGB32_22k16m.mov
1.mov
ln -s <contentdirectory>/360x240_RGB32_22k16m.mov
2.mov
.. repeat for a total of ~30 links

4. create an output directory
mkdir <batch output directory>

5. run producer in batch mode
./producer -i <batch source directory> -o <batch
output directory> -ad 768k -dt

Notes:

This crash does not seem sensitive to the
audience. It will crash with 10mbs, 768, 512,
256k etc. (I haven't tried it with lower bitrate
audiences)

It may take anywhere from 7 to 60 encodes to get
it to crash - from 20 minutes to 2 hours.

I have seen this crash in debug builds, running in
codewarrior's debugger, and running from gdb. It
seemed to take longer to crash when running from
codewarrior. GDB was more stable but not
incredibly informative. The release build seems
to crash the quickest. I did not however double
check the crash stack as I had a number of crashes
in debug builds as well.

I had wonderered if the problem was related to
running out of physical memory and having to use
swap space (different timing). I added another
512MB for a total of 768MB but saw no change in
behaviour.

I also tried maxing out the cpu with other
applications while encoding and this had no
discernable effect.
